- There was eight pounds of fur on a dog. His owner was accused of being cruel. On Saturday, a woman called Chief Ken Ross to report that her New York neighbor’s dog was bein
treated. At the reported home, Ross and police from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Putnam County asked the owner to show them his dog. Ross has witnessed countless instances of animal abuse since starting the county’s SPCA in 2010. But he claimed that when he saw this dog, he was astounded.
The little poodle was covered in more than eight pounds of fur, which erupted from his body like tentacles and covered his eyes and most of his face.
Ross told The Washington Post, “This is probably the worst case that we’ve ever seen.” The owner of the dog was accused of animal cruelty by the police. Officers then transported Pierre, a 9-year-old canine, to a veterinary facility. Three vets shaved and clipped Pierre’s fur for two hours, cleaning urine and faeces and exposing a scarlet collar that had been hidden around his neck. Pierre lost weight and changed appearance, going from 22 to 13.8 pounds.
The SPCA identified Brian Edwards as the dog’s owner, but The Post was unable to get in touch with him. On August 30, he is due in court for arraignment at the Patterson Justice Court. Authorities indicated that Edwards will be represented by the county’s public defenders office, but the office did not reply to demands for comment on Thursday. Ross reported that Pierre’s Patterson, New York, neighbours claimed they had not seen him outside in seven years. Ross reported that Pierre was unable to walk normally when he arrived at the house on Saturday afternoon. Ross claimed that the dog also smelled of the faeces that had caked onto his fur. In Brewster, New York, Ross took Pierre to Guardian Veterinary Specialists.
About every five years, according to the founder of the animal hospital, Jason Berg, he sees dogs in Pierre’s condition. When your hair is that matted and tangled, Berg added, “it’s heartbreaking the pain that these guys are in.” Pierre’s fur, according to Berg, has been developing for at least 18 months. According to Berg, physicians sedated Pierre since he was in discomfort when they touched his fur. Then the piles of fur were removed by three veterinarians using cutters and razors. They slashed through inches till they reached his tan flesh. Berg remarked, “Nobody would think it’s the same dog.After the surgery, a pile of fur was left on the floor. According to Berg, Pierre had a cut from the collar that was concealed by his fur and a bladder infection. For nearly a day, Pierre was in excruciating discomfort and refused to eat. Pierre has been eating chicken and moving about the hospital pain-free since Monday, according to Berg. There, Pierre has kept getting treatment. Berg doesn’t anticipate Pierre having ongoing medical issues. Pierre will reside at a Connecticut poodle rescue facility that the SPCA discovered until he finds a new owner. “You cwasan tell he feels a lot better,” Berg remarked.
